What is SNAPIQS?
The Southern Nevada Asian Pacific Islander Queer Society (SNAPIQS) envisions a powerful LGBT*, queer, gender-nonconforming, and transgender individuals of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American community that is seen, heard and celebrated.
June 2020, SNAPIQS came together to celebrate pride month and to build a community through advocacy, inclusion and love. We hope you join us in our mission!
We are striving to provide the Southern Nevada region with multiple events involving workshops, presentation, socio-cultural activities as well as networking opportunities. SNAPIQS is ready to serve our community!
SNAPIQS builds queer and transgender Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American power to amplify our voices and increase the visibility of our communities. Through organizing in the Southern Nevada, we inspire and train grassroots leaders, transform our values from scarcity to abundance, and partner with organizations to sustain a vibrant movement ecosystem.
Uplifting Our History
Our work is rooted in the many legacies of queer and trans API people who have fought isolation, battled for our rights, and created communities of care. To understand where we’re going, we need to understand the successes and challenges of our elders and ancestors.
Together, we learn and practice organizing skills, unlearn ancestral and collective traumas, and relearn values of abundance and interdependence. Our organization is centered on the transformative potential of relationships and organizing.
SNAPIQS History & People
Established in 2019, after months of discussion and soul searching, the Southern Nevada Asian Pacific Islander Queer Society (SNAPIQS) was founded to create a safe and supportive community to foster positive role models in Southern Nevada.
The founding leadership team envisioned SNAPIQS to serve the LGBT*, queer, gender-nonconforming, and transgender individuals of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American descent in Southern Nevada region through education, mentorship, awareness, advocacy, and activities both social and cultural.
Since our inception, SNAPIQS directly engage in social, cultural, and political advocacy to advance and protect our community’s interests and well-being. As an all-volunteer, grassroots organization, we have been dedicated to providing a safe space to inspire individuals to be their best selves, for others to celebrate our diversity, and for all of us to continue the fight for equality.
SNAPIQS became a federation member of the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) + Nevada Minority Health & Equity Coalition (NMHEC) since 2020.
The Southern Nevada Asian Pacific Islander Queer Society (SNAPIQS) is NOT a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization or 501(c)(4) nonprofit social welfare organization. However, we are working forward toward obtaining this status in the future.
